Your Mind Is Brilliant — But Prone to Dysfunction (Here’s How to Update It)

Our minds are extraordinary. They are capable of creativity, problem-solving, and imagination that no other species on Earth can match. But just like any complex system, they are also prone to glitches.

When I was younger, I had a Nokia phone.
It was almost indestructible — you could drop it, sit on it, throw it in a bag with keys, and it would still work.

Now I have an iPhone.
It’s far more advanced — it can do so much more than my old Nokia ever could — but because it’s so complex, it’s also more fragile. It freezes, glitches, and needs regular software updates to keep running smoothly.

Our minds work in a similar way.

The Primitive vs. Advanced Mind

At our core, we still have the primitive mind — the same system other animals have — whose main job is survival. It works in real time only:

  • If something happens, it reacts now.

  • If there’s a threat, it triggers fight, flight, or freeze.

But humans were given an upgrade: the advanced mind that can imagine the future, reflect on the past, plan, dream, and create.

Here’s where the “glitch” comes in:
The primitive mind hasn’t fully integrated with the advanced mind.
So when you imagine something bad happening, or recall a painful event, the primitive mind reacts as if it’s happening right now.

What This Looks Like in Everyday Life

This mismatch between the primitive and advanced mind is why you might experience:

  • Anxiety and racing thoughts

  • Emotional loops you can’t switch off

  • Worrying about things that aren’t even happening

  • Physical symptoms like tight chest, upset stomach, or panic

Your mind is doing its job — trying to get you to take action to keep you safe — but the information it’s using is outdated.

Why We Don’t Get “Software Updates”

Technology gets regular updates to fix bugs and improve function.
But our minds? They don’t automatically get updated.

Without help, the primitive mind keeps reacting to old imprints as if they are current threats. It keeps attaching distorted meaning — “I’m unsafe,” “This means I’m not good enough,” “I’ll never recover” — and keeps firing off painful thoughts and emotions to push you into action.

How Hypnotherapy Works Like a Software Update

In hypnotherapy and Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT), my role is to guide your mind to integrate its primitive and advanced parts. Here’s how it works:

Identifying the Glitch
Through conversation, I uncover what meaning your mind has attached to an event or memory.

Delivering the Update
Using multi-level communication — speaking to both conscious and unconscious mind — I help the primitive mind get the memo that nothing is happening right now that needs action.

Restoring Calm
Once the update lands, your mind stops firing unnecessary alarms. Anxiety, looping thoughts, and distress settle.

Clients often describe this as feeling lighter, clearer, and free — as though the system has finally been reset.

Your Mind Isn’t Broken — It Just Needs an Update

Just like your iPhone needs the occasional software update, your mind sometimes needs guidance to run on the latest, most accurate information.

With the right “update,” the primitive and advanced mind can work together beautifully — keeping you safe without keeping you stuck.
